This is a rerun. A rerun with far too many Editorial Comments. Heheh. >:3 *scampers away*
Excerpts from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the E.G.C.
When in doubt, seek transportation. At last count, the City has
--A very extensive bus system that
--Connects with the sub/rail station which
--Has stops at the airport where
--You could hail one of 1,000+ taxis, or you could always
--Stick out your thumb in the general direction that you want to go.
The City also lends out public bikes (painted yellow) for free use, as long as you return them to a designated bike depot, also
painted yellow.
Of course, you could always use your own two legs. However, by the laws of Chaos and the whim of some strange deity with a
twisted sense of humor, anyone who walks around without any idea of where they're going generally ends up either at 1) the Bar
or 2) the center of some major disaster about to occur. (Occasionally, these two locations also coincide.)
When in extreme doubt, head to the bar.
The wisdom behind this concept is, essentially, that if someone sets off with a direct goal in mind -- any goal, so long as it exists -- then the laws applying to those who walk around aimlessly should cease to apply.
Also, "When in doubt, head to the bar" is likely to be the first bit of advice that any native of the City will give. The second bit of advice is, usually, "Drink it before it burns through the bottom of the glass"...
Most creatures in EGC generate fields called "patterns". The ones that don't tend to populate the Religious Sector six feet underground. It's akin to the New Age theory of "auras", but it's advisable to avoid calling them that unless your insurance covers fist-related bar-room accidents.
Patterns are a rather complicated nuance of EGC... most tourists resort to the semi-official list issued by Dot Warner:
Red--Capable of generating an "Anti AT Field" which dissolves psychological and physical barriers between members of the same species.
Orange--Generated by most life forms; the background radiation of the Big Bang is also a very faint orange pattern.
Yellow--Generated by beings with the ability to draw from their life force (i.e. magic/chi users).
Green--Like "Yellow", except beings of this type can also generate "AT Fields" and "Wings" similar to that of Angels. (Tenchi, Tsunami, and to some extent Ryouko would fall under this category.)
[Ed.-- This doesn't explain the Midori at all. Uhm...]
Blue--Generated by Angels, Demons, and Deities, with the exception of Namekkians, who have a more "Green"-ish pattern.
Purple--Generated by Iwakura Lain and several other such entities. Exact details unknown.
Black--Generates an offensive-type "AT Field"; Hugh Davis [and Claire are] the only known life form[s] with this pattern.
[Ed.-- Vocal has also have been discovered to have a Black Pattern. It seems to be a rare trait of demons.]
Null--Pattern generated by Davis' son Kyuusaisha, a mixture of Blue and Black patterns. Exact details unknown.
White--Pattern generated by those who call themselves "RL"s; this pattern may also be detectable in varying intensity from "Self Inserts".
[Ed.-- Synthesis also has a white pattern, despite being neither RL nor Insert.]
Gray--Pattern generated by the entity known as Adam (no apparent relation to the Angel by the same name), the only known entity who has this pattern. Exact details unknown, as Adam cycles periodically between "White" and "Gray".
However, a lot of the more seasoned EGC natives have developed a simpler, more pragmatic system:
Red--just face it, bud, it's your fate to explode like a cheap horror flick extra.
Orange--it's alive. See if it has money.
Yellow--whatever it is, don't piss it off.
Green--either it's a Chatty insert, or a Miyu. Act pathetic until you can find a sharp enough stick.
[Ed.-- *snort*]
Blue--it's an Angel. Definitely don't piss it off.
Purple--Lain. Hide the cookies and act natural.
Black--see red, except it'll probably be a less humane end. ^^;
Null--praise the child. Praaaaise the child...
White--not worth bothering about. 'S prolly all show.
Gray--well, ain't that special. Prolly'll be a kakkoi funky new development, eh?
